AUGUST 15: HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
We’d like to wish our team members in India a Happy Independence Day tomorrow! This holiday commemorates the nation’s independence from the United Kingdom on August 15, 1947, the day when the provisions of the 1947 Indian Independence Act came into effect. This transferred legislative sovereignty to the Indian Constituent Assembly.
TIPS FOR SUCCESS: THE BENEFITS OF BEING ON-CAMERA
Virtual meetings have been key to our success as a company, allowing us the opportunity to have team members from across the globe! We want to share how important it is to turn your camera on for meetings. Here are some benefits:
Facial cues improve communication and build trust. When we can see someone’s facial expressions and body language, it can help us understand their thoughts and feelings better. When team members feel more connected and in sync with each other, they are better equipped to work together effectively, leading to better collaboration.
Helps in relationship building. Visual cues, such as facial expressions and body language, play a significant role in how we understand and interpret others’ emotions and intentions. By seeing these cues during virtual meetings, employees can better understand each other and build stronger relationships.
Better accountability and focus. When cameras are on, it sends a signal to everyone that the meeting is an important and serious matter, and that everyone is expected to be fully engaged and focused.
Reduce distractions and multitasking. When cameras are on, it becomes less likely for team members to feel tempted to get away with distractions or multitasking, as their faces and bodies are visible on the screen.
Improves engagement. It’s easier for team members to connect with one another and feel more invested in the meeting. This, in turn, can lead to improved outcomes for the company.
Sign of respect. When cameras are on, it sends a signal to everyone that everyone fully respects the meeting and values everyone’s time. This sends a positive message to their colleagues and helps in building trust and camaraderie.
Career progression. A recent survey from Vyopta, a software company, found that 92% of executives at medium to large firms think workers who turn cameras off during meetings do not have a long-term future at the company. Leaders believe that by turning cameras on, employees demonstrate that they are serious about their work and take the meeting seriously.
Next time you have a virtual meeting, please be sure to turn your cameras on! If you have any technical difficulties with your cameras, please contact our IT department.

HOW TO COMMUNICATE YOUR IDEAS MORE EFFECTIVELY
You have great ideas—but they’re just not landing with your colleagues. What can you do to communicate your thoughts more effectively? Here are three strategies to ensure your ideas resonate with any audience.
- Think small. Ask yourself: “What’s one idea I can sell to my audience (peer, client, boss, or team) in our next meeting?” You may feel eager to present several options at once, but resist the temptation. Choose your best idea and aim for a small, simple win. It will carry you forward, helping you build momentum and credibility until you’re ready to share the next idea…and then the next.
- Keep it brief. Think 10 minutes or less. It’s safe to assume that your audience’s bandwidth is limited. Cut down your presentation into one big headline and two or three supporting points.
- Remember that it’s not about you. Pitching great ideas isn’t about advancing your own interests—it’s about advancing the team. Put your ego and ambition aside, consider what the team needs, and deliver your idea in a way that the audience will understand.
