We all love our German cars, German engineering, German chocolate, and (obviously) German beer, so it will not come as any surprise that our country is recognizing the month of October as German-American Heritage Month, with October 6, 2022 being German-American Day this year. The first proclamation of German-American Heritage Month was issued by Ronald Reagan in October 1987, and since then, we have been observing it every year.
Together with immigrants from other European countries, Germans arrived in the United States in the 17th century, on the same quest of seeking a land of opportunity and religious freedom. Since then, German-Americans have become one of the largest ancestry groups (43 million German-Americans) in this nation. The US recognizes how immigrants of this heritage have enriched this nation with their talents, skills, knowledge, and rich cultural heritage.
