Polish American Heritage Month is an annual event celebrated in Polish American communities, first observed in 1981. It is celebrated in October, which has significance as the month when the first Polish settlers came to Jamestown, Virginia in 1608.
Polish Americans have subsequently established successful businesses and communities throughout the US. Some of the largest Polish American Communities can be found in Chicago, New York City, and Milwaukee, WI.
There are an estimated 9.15 million self-identified Polish Americans, representing about 3% of the US Population, making Polish Americans the second-largest Central European ethnic group in the country.
